Are scripts necessary for video production?

Writing a script is one of the tasks undertaken during Pre-Production. Clients often ask if they need to write a script for their video, and the answer usually depends on the video.

Scripts are beneficial when points need to be communicated as succinctly as possible. For videos such as product and services ads, scripts are a way of ensuring all points are covered.

However, in certain situations scripts can become a hindrance. For videos such as company profiles, testimonials, and case studies, scripts can sound unnatural and often prevent people from expressing their personality. In those instances where personality is important, opting out of using scripts can be beneficial.

A good in between is to use talking points listed as bullet points. This ensures that all points are covered but still allows for people to express their personality.
